Alzheimer's Family Relief ProgramIn recent years it became increasingly difficult to generate donor support for our Alzheimer's Family Relief Program (AFRP) that provided financial assistance to the families and caregivers of those with Alzheimer's disease. Therefore, after much thought, the Board of Directors of the American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF) regretfully decided to close the program. AHAF remains committed to its support of high quality research for Alzheimer's Disease, Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma at institutions worldwide. Resources for Financial and Other AssistanceBenefits CheckupThis program of the National Council on Aging has a free website service that identifies federal and state assistance programs for older Americans. Partnership for Prescription AssistanceHelps qualifying patients who lack prescription coverage get the medicines they need through public or private programs. The Medicine ProgramCoordinates with physicians to assist those who do not have insurance coverage for outpatient prescription medications and do not qualify for government programs. RxAssistOffers information on patient assistance programs sponsored by pharmaceutical companies that provide free medications to those who cannot afford them. Family Caregiver Alliance, National Center on CaregivingInformation, education, services, research and advocacy for those caring for people with chronic, disabling health conditions. National Family Caregivers AssociationEducates, supports, empowers and speaks up for those who care for loved ones with a chronic illness or disability or who are elderly. Social Security AdministrationGovernment-sponsored programs and financial support for those who need assistance. Social WorkersContact a social worker at a local hospital or community for help in identifying resources within the community. The Hill Burton ProgramThe program ended in 1997, but about 300 hospitals and health care facilities are still obligated to provide free or reduced cost care; the website has a directory of participating facilities. Rebuilding TogetherAims to preserve and revitalize houses and communities, assuring that low-income homeowners live in warmth, safety, and independence. Volunteers of AmericaNational, nonprofit, faith-based organization that helps those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential through human service programs.
