American Health Assistance Foundation

Since inception the Alzheimer's Disease Research (ADR) program the American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF) has awarded more than $60.2 million to support promising research in fields ranging from molecular biology to epidemiology. ADR is currently supporting 48 outstanding biomedical researchers.

 
The Macular Degeneration Research Program (MDR) is the newest AHAF program. Since 1999, AHAF has awarded over $7.6 million to support basic research into the causes and potential treatments of this disease. MDR is currently supporting 25 biomedical researchers.

 
Since the National Glaucoma Research (NGR) program began in 1978, AHAF has awarded more than $15.7 million to support basic research into the causes and potential treatments of this disease. NGR is currently supporting 27 biomedical researchers.

Pilot Awards = $150,000 budgeted over 2 years
Research Fellowships = $100,000 budgeted over 2 years

Researcher Spotlight

Stanley Prusiner, M.D.
Stanley Prusiner, M.D., a neurobiologist at the University of California at San Francisco, was awarded the 1997 Nobel Prize in Medicine for his groundbreaking discovery and definition of a new class of disease-causing agents called prions. Dr. Prusiner's early research program was supported by AHAF. He now serves as an honorary member of the AHAF board of directors. Read more…

Alzheimer's Disease Workshop
Preceding the Society for Neuroscience 2008 Annual Meeting, the Internationale Stichting Alzheimer Onderzoek (ISAO) together with the American Health Assistance Foundation (AHAF) will organize a workshop to provide Ph.D. students from all over the world in the discipline of experimental and clinical Alzheimer's disease research with an up-to-date overview of the current knowledge in the field.

Learn more about the workshop that will be held just outside of Washington, D.C. from November 12 -14, 2008.
